Taking the First Steps into the BFL Pre-Academy Development Centre
The BFL Pre-Academy Development Centre is designed to support young players as they take their first steps beyond grassroots football and into a more structured development environment. Delivered through termly development blocks, the programme focuses on building strong foundations at a crucial stage of a child’s football journey.

Each block places a clear emphasis on fundamental movement skills such as agility, balance, coordination and speed, all developed through well-planned football-based activities and engaging skill practices. Sessions are energetic, enjoyable and age-appropriate, helping players improve their movement, confidence and ball mastery in a way that feels natural and fun.
All sessions are led by highly skilled, experienced coaches who create a positive and supportive learning environment. Coaches focus on encouragement, confidence-building and individual development, ensuring every player feels challenged while enjoying their football.

The Pre-Academy is designed to complement grassroots football, not replace it. It provides players with additional high-quality coaching and extra development time, helping them transfer new skills and understanding back into their club environment.

With a clear and positive progression pathway, the BFL Pre-Academy helps players and parents understand how development can continue over time, whether that is improved confidence and performance at grassroots level or potential future opportunities within the BFL pathway.
For parents, the programme offers peace of mind: a structured, supportive and enjoyable environment where children can develop their football ability, physical skills and love for the game — guided by coaches who prioritise long-term development over short-term results.
