Match Report Under 17’s: Cardiff Met 1-2 Briton Ferry Llansawel

Reds mount Comeback at Cyncoed

Briton Ferry Llansawel came from a goal behind to beat Cardiff Met at Cyncoed Campus.  The win moved the team to the top of the SWWGL U17 Premier. 


The first half saw a tight back and fourth contest but the hosts managed to grab the all important first goal.  Met had gone close earlier in the half but Charlotte Merry pulled off a stunning save. 


The Reds stepped up in the second half and went looking fir a way back into the game.  Sophia Grove came up with the equaliser and just a minute after going level the Reds went ahead thanks to Begw Gruffydd converting for the spot. 

An early Met free kick from the left allowed them to get the ball into the box.  Ferry keeper Charlotte Merry was alert and collected the ball in before Met could craft a chance.

Isabella Lewis went close to the opening goal when her shot went just wide.  Isabelle Cullen played a good ball into the box to find Lewis in space.  Lewis hit a shot at goal but it went over the bar. 


Met had a good chance but were denied by Charlotte Merry.  A fast close range shot fired from the right was superbly tipped over the bar by Merry. 


Met took  the lead late in the first half Neve Powell finding Maisy Gladwyn In the box who finished well.

Met made an early break and with baring down on the Reds goal when Merry came out to clear stopping a clear chance for Met to add to their lead. 


Into the middle of the half and two minutes saw the game turn completely.  After a spell of Ferry pressure the ball came just outside the box to Sophia Groves.  Groves picked her spot in the bottom corner leaving no chance for the Met keeper.

Then Bella Williams made a run into the Met box where she was brought down giving the Reds a penalty.  Begw Gruffydd converted the from the spot.


Grove then had the chance to make it three but her effort went wide of the Met goal.

As Met looked to get level they pushed forward but Charlotte Merry was alert to their attack and made another good save.
