Thomas Stars to take down Town

Manon Thomas scored and assisted as Briton Ferry Llansawel beat Barry Town United 2-1 at LLandarcy Academy of Sport. 


Thomas opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a stunning free kick to give the Reds a great start.  The Reds had chances to extend their lead but Maia Owen put a shot over the bar.  Barry came back into the game as the half went on and equalised in the 49th minute.  The Linnets might have led if not for the crossbar intervening. 


Ferry pushed Barry in the second half creating lots of chances and finally found a breakthrough after 77 minutes.  Gwennan Folkes hitting a shot into the top corner.  Barry tried to find another equaliser but their late efforts were either blocked or wide of the target. 

Ferry had an early chance when Chloe Rudge’s deflected effort crashed off the cross bar. 


The first half was low on chances as the teams battled for control but the Reds earned a free kick out on the left.  Manon Thomas stood over it and from a acute angle curled the ball inside of the near post.

Thomas lined up for another free kick midway into the Barry half and sent the ball deep into the area.  Barry keeper Daisy Price kicking the ball clear but only into the path of Maia Owen.  Owen with little time to react sent her effort over the bar.


Barry levelled in the 40th minute Aliya Hull hitting a shot on the turn into the far corner. 

The visitors had the chance to take the lead but their effort from outside the box was saved by Charlotte Merry. 


Barry ended the half strongly and a saw a free kick rattle Merry’s cross bar.

Ferry started the half brightly and saw a couple of early chances.  Maia Owen and Lily Evans both trying from outside the box but both sending the ball too close to the keeper.


Sophia Grove then went close forcing a save from the keeper.  Thomas picked up the ball in the middle and played it into Grove.  Grove then side stepped a defender before striking a low shot causing a save. 


Grove then set up Thomas for a chance as Ferry continued to pressure.  Grove playing the ball to the left finding Thomas who sent a shot across goal just wide of the far post.


The heavy pressure from Ferry told as Gwennan Folkes put the Reds ahead in the 77th minute.  Folkes controlled the ball from Manon Thomas’ corner and while under pressure from Barry defenders sent the ball over the keeper into the top corner.
