Match Report Under 19’s: Cardiff City 1-0 Briton Ferry Llansawel

Late defeat in the Capital
An 89th minute goal from Aimee Cake denied a point for Briton Ferry Llansawel. After a competitive match Cake’s late strike ensured all three points for the home side.
The first half saw the host take the initiative and Ferry were forced to defend for much of the half. A clearance off the line and a disallowed goal as Cardiff went closest to scoring. Harley Hodge had the best chance for the Reds but Emily Kinsella made a close range save to deny Hodge.
The second half saw a more even match with chances going for both sides. Maia Owen getting a couple of shots off and Lily Evans forcing a save from the keeper. As it looked that the game would end level Aimee Cake hit a shot from just inside the box to give the hosts a win.
Cardiff worked the ball in from the left and had the ball in the net but there had been an offside in the build up.
The hosts continued to pressure and went close again with Ferry needing to clear form the line. The Bluebirds swung a corner into the Ferry six yard box and fired two shots.

The first was blocked by Olivia Kett-White and the follow up cleared by Gwen Strang.
Ferry then had a good chance to take the lead. From A Manon Thomas corner Cardiff tried to clear but Thomas won the ball back and played it across goal finding Hodge.
Hodge under pressure tried to direct the ball into the goal but a defender put in a vital block.
Aimee Cake then forced a save from Georgia Cobley. As Ferry looked to clear the ball it fell to Cake outside the box who hit a shot at Cobley that the Ferry keeper dealt with.

Cardiff made a bright start to the half and fired a shot across the Ferry goal early in the half.
A good run into the box from Elexis Lowe as she found some space in the box to fire a shot but Cobley saved.
Ferry then came back into the game and from a corner the ball was only cleared as far as Harley Hodge. Hodge hit a first time shot at goal but the City keeper saved.
As the Reds looked to pressure the Bluebirds the ball came out to Lily Evans. Evans guided a shot towards goal but too close to the keeper who was able to save.

Manon Thomas won the ball on the left and with a skilful turn was able to slide the ball into the path of Maia Owen. Owen under pressure tried a shot but the keeper was able to save.
In the 89th minute the hosts took the lead with a well struck strike from Aimee Cake. After a shot was blocked the ball fell to Cake who hit a strike into the top corner.
