Reds with Comeback win on the Road
Briton Ferry Llansawel came from behind to beat Barry Town United 2-1 at Jenner Park in the Adran Under 19’s South.
A tense first half ended goalless despite chances at either end. Charlotte Merry was needed to make several saves as Barry pressured The Reds for periods of the fist half. Lucy Jones hit a shot over the bar and Gwennan Folkes saw her effort saved.
The second half saw the game come alive as both teams looked to get the all important win. Harley Bowen struck first for the host’s giving them the lead on 55 minutes. The Reds fought back and were level ten minutes later thanks to a wonderful strike by Tegan Owen. With the game in the balance Ferry hit Barry with a fluid and quick counter attack in the 79th minute with Chloe Rudge scoring another quality goal. Barry pressured late on but Georgia Cobley made some vital stops late on.

The win see’s the Reds stay in third spot in the table with one game left to play in this phase.
Barry had an early chance to take the lead as they caught Ferry on the counter attack after the Reds had pushed forward early on. The chance came from a good run and a shot that whisked past Charlotte Merry’s goal.
The Linnets enjoyed some early pressure and saw another effort this time from distance which was hit straight at Merry in goal.
The host’s went close again as they worked the ball into the box. Merry making a great reaction save to deny a close range shot.
Chloe Rudge sent a shot just wide of the Barry goal as the ball fell to her from a well worked Ferry corner. Rudge hitting a shot on the turn but unable to hit the target.

As the teams battled for control in the early stages of the second half it was the host that struck the first blow. Harley Bowen lifting the ball towards the back post and seeing it hit the net giving the home team the lead.
The Reds were then awarded a free kick inside the Barry penalty box when a defender passed the ball back to the keeper who picked the ball up. With all 11 players on the goal line Harley Hodge and Tegan Owen stood over the ball. Hodge touched the ball off for Owen, who with the Barry team charging off the line struck a sweet shot though the crowd and into the net.
Ferry’s second came from a quick counter after defending a Barry corner. The Reds clearing the box with the ball going to Lucy Jones. Jones showed great vision to find Chloe Rudge running past the Barry defence. Rudge a long way from goal kept her cool and hit a low shot from outside the box into the far side of the goal.
Barry pushed hard for an equaliser and from a corner a point blank header was saved by Georgia Cobley. Cobley was needed again deep into added time making two vital stops. First she came out of her area to clear a forward ball and then was able to get back into position to save as Barry fired a shot at goal.
