Match Report Under 19’s : Briton Ferry Llansawel 2-3 Pontypridd United

The young Reds suffered defeat in their opening Adran South Under 19’s match as they lost 3-2 to Pontypridd United.
The Red started well and took an early lead, Lucy Jones putting them ahead after two minutes. The lead was soon wiped out as former Ferry player Catrin Edwards grabbed an equaliser. Pontypridd then went ahead in the 20th minute thanks to a penalty from Chloe Simmonds. An action packed first half saw the teams level again as Matilda Matthews made it 2-2 just past the half hour mark. Robyn Lloyd scored what would be the winning goal in the 85th minute.
Ferry attacked from the straight from the kick off and won an early corner. The corner was sent into the box and Ponty could only clear to the edge of the box. The Reds kept the ball alive and a though all gave Lucy Jones the opportunity to poke the ball past the Ponty keeper.
The visitors equalised soon after themselves from a corner. Reds keeper Charlotte Merry saving a downward header but Ponty’s Catrin Edwards was first to the loose ball, tapping in from close range.
Ponty were then awarded a penalty when their player was bundled over in the box. Chloe Simmonds sending the ball past Merry to make it 2-1.
Ferry had chances to level the game and made the breakthrough in the 32nd minute. A good ball across goal found Matilda Matthews in the box who directed the ball past the keeper.

Ferry looked to take the lead back after the break and Freya Peyton tried to curl the ball past the keeper from outside the box.
Pontypridd were still looking threatening and saw a shot hit the near post as they also looked to regain the lead.
Harley Hodge then went close when her free kick went over the Ponty wall and forced the keeper into a save.
With five minutes to play Ponty took the lead from Robyn Lloyds effort from the right side.
Ferry pushed again for an equaliser with Freya Penton hitting a shot straight at the keeper. A late free kick went narrowly wide of the post from Tegan Owen.
Pontypridd though were able to withstand the pressure from the Reds to hang on for the win.
Ferry’s Gwen Strang was shown a red card following the final whistle.
